Propenderei
    per il no. Mi aiutate?
Tonio 2005-12-08 13:08 Il bonus pensioni, pro e contro Ne abbiamo
parlato qualche mese fa. restano validi i suggerimenti dati allora.
    Eccoli:
che verr erogata in base all'importo maturato fino a quel momento
    momento dell'effettivo pensionamento.
cresce all'aumentare del reddito.
In
A 35.000 euro

    sempre comportati bene?

Went to a house today to consult on a service upgrade. Problem is, I can't determine what I am upgrading from. There was no main disconnect either at the house distribution panel or outside at the meter. There was just a meter there! I think it's safe to assume, then, that if a house was wired back when this was considered legitimate practice, that it's
probably a 60amp servive. However, I'd like to be able also to determine for sure what is the size of the existing wire, to see if it has to be changed to accomodate a 100a upgrade. But the wire from the meter to the distribution panel is unlabeled cloth-covered red and black, with uninsulated stranded neutral (no grounding wire). And of couse I can't tell
what is coming into the meter from the mast since the poco is none too fond of us snipping off their little locks.
    Any advice?

" meter to the distribution panel is unlabeled cloth-covered red and black, with uninsulated stranded neutral (no grounding wire). "
I think it is completely safe to assume you will be starting from scratch.... reguardless of wire size.

I don't understand why you are concerned with wire sizes, of what is being torn out.

Determining wire size, insulation and ampacity used to be one of the test problems in the practical section of the NYC Electrician's exam. You have to measure the diameter of one strand with a micrometer, calculate the cross-sectional area and multiply it by the total number of strands in order to get the overall cross-sectional area of the conductor. You
then have to determine the type of insulation. The old NYC code book is a bit different from our current NEC code book but you'll find the information in Chapter 9, Table 4 for wire size, then go to the ampacity tables.;)
BTW, this information is just for your reference, I'd rip the old stuff out too. The guy at the scrap yard only cares how much it weighs.

I wouldn't concern myself with what is existing. As long as you are upgrading the service, replace the SE cable with a four wire cable,(Two hots, a neutral and a ground) bond the water, the water meter, put in a new electrode, replace the meter can, add a main disconnect and charge the customer for all of it.
Sounds like the existing dates back to mid 1950's or earlier and I'm sure it's not up to today's code anyway.
In michigan, they still allow a 3 wire SE cable but, I know some states no longer do.

    Thanks for your responses.
LK - I was concerned with wire sizes because we have not yet determined what would be torn out. Also, I will want to determine if the service entrance wires (from mast head to meter) are sized for 100a. Sometimes, even where the service was 60a, the wire installed was capable of carrying 100a.
Andy - thanks. I was wondering if there was some sort of caliper for measuring wire, and since you mention a micrometer I guess that answers my question. But i never heard of a micrometer. Where would I find one? Do people still even use these?
    Thanks again, folks.

micrometers are used by machinists to determine exact measurements of the thicknesses of metals. Check out this: http://www.mytoolstore.com/starrett/microndx.html

    Dan McGillis - #6 - Defense - 6'2" - 230lbs
News: Dan McGillis was a healthy scratch against the Red Wings last night.
Impact: It was the second straight game the Devils' defenseman was forced to sit in the press box. With Sean Brown playing so well, coach Larry Robinson has been forced to rotate his blueliners in and out of the lineup. Expect this practice to continue. (Thu. Dec 8, 2005)
    Scott Clemmensen - #40 - Goaltender - 6'3" - 205lbs
News: Scott Clemmensen will likely start in goal for the Devils this evening against the Red Wings.
Impact: The New Jersey backup hasn't played in a month and we are not sure that a date with Detroit is the best spot for him to return to action. We would advise you not to activate Clemmensen for this evening's contest. (Wed. Dec 7, 2005)
    Viktor Kozlov - #22 - Center - 6'5" - 233lbs
News: Viktor Kozov scored the shootout winning goal as New Jersey downed Minnesota 3-2 this afternoon.
Impact: Kozlov also had the tying goal for New Jersey, with Jay Pandolfo adding the other Devils' marker. Brian Rolston and Andrei Zyuzin replied for Minnesota. Kozlov's goal gives him 7 points in his last 5 games, so he should be in your active lineup while he continues to play well. (Sun. Dec 4, 2005)

Hello all, I am by no means an electrician, but I do have a question.
I am in the process of looking to buy a house, and my realitor had
said that once we find a house I like, to get a 15 Point Safety
Inspection. I called the electrical company that she suggested, but
they really didn't explain what all was done. My question is this.
    1. What would ALL be tested in this inspection (as much detail as
possible please, remember I am not an electrician)For all of you
electrical contractors, if I were to have called about this, what
    would your list include?
    2. Is this really needed in buying a newer home, meaning, is this
just a marketing thing with the realitor and electrical company?
    3. If I do decide to have this inspection, what would be a reasonable
price to pay (Seattle Washington area)
I could see if I was buying an older home, but don't want to be taken
    advantage of.
Thank you to all that take the time to reply
    Jason

Jason, You said that you talked to your realitor. Have you asked your
proposed lending institution or insurer for recommendations? You would
be penny wise and dollar foolish to not have one done.

There are Home Inspection Services that check all the conditions of a
home, if they find a problem in any area of construction, they will
recommend you contact someone in that field to investigate the
    problem.
Here is a site that may help you locate a Home Inspector,
    http://www.findaninspector.us/
15 Point Safety Inspection, sounds like something for your car, not
your electrical system. Call the electrician in if a problem is
    uncovered in the Home Inspection.

We'd like to get a thread going with some pictures of Holiday
    Lighting that we run across.
I know we all see some real nice displays this time of year.
Text with how they were done, or any special "twists" would also be
    welcome.
How about it? What better place than ECN for a collection like this?
Please email any to me at
    electure@sbcglobal.net
and I'll put them up, or you can send them to

Just to add maybe a little to lamplighters comments, I am changing a
service tommorrow on a house that was suppose to have had a
homeowner's inspection 5 years ago, but whoever did the inspection,
failed to note to the buyer, that the service riser wires were frayed
and in bad shape (outside insulation pratically gone). Now they're
having the whole service changed, Outside meter etc. and subpanel on
inside. Something like this I think should have been noted to the
homeowner. The possibility of loosing the neutral on the riser could
cause major damage to their appliances etc. within the house. I've
had at least 2 calls in probably the last year, where the homeowner
has lost appliances because of this. Hope this helps and adds to the
    other suggestions already given....Steve

    sparkync,
We do a large amount of inspection repairs, and when you find a
problem, and they say they had an inspection 5 years ago, ask for
their inspection report, most of the time, they either had no
inspection done, or they had the inspection, and decided to let the
problem wait, they act supprised, and say the home inspector never
    found that.

The job of a home inspector is to point out issues that may be
important to the buyer. Whether they were legal or not when the house
was built isn't important. The seller always has the option of saying
the house is sold as is and let the buyer decide if they want to buy
    another one.
A great example would be a house that only has a 60a service. it is
very possible that this is the way houses were built in the 40s or
50s but that is not reasonable today.

    Equipment and System Components
What are PV cells, modules, and arrays?
    Cell:
The basic unit of a PV system is the cell. First a silicon crystal is
grown into a bar shape called an ingot. This is then cut into thin
slices and electrodes are attached to create the cells.
    Module:
A module is a package in which a set of cells are arranged in rows
and covered with sturdy glass so that they can be mounted on a roof.
    Array:
An array consists of multiple modules (panels) arranged either in
series or in parallel and mounted on a frame.
    What is conversion efficiency?
The conversion efficiency expresses the percentage of light energy
from the sun that is actually converted into electricity.
The following formula can be used to calculate the conversion
    efficiency of a PV module.*
    * Calculation using exterior dimensions with protrusions omitted.
    Equipment and Installation
What is the ideal roof gradient?
The ideal PV panel angle from the standpoint of volume of
electricity generated is 30 degrees in Japan. Though there are
regional variations when installation and maintenance are taken into
account, there should be no problem if the roof gradient is between
20 and 40 degrees. This amount of variation from the ideal will only
result in a difference of about 2% in the amount of electricity
    produced.
Are only roofs with a southern exposure suitable for installation of
    PV arrays?
Which direction does your roof face? The amount of electricity
produced differs depending on the orientation of the roof. Make sure
to confirm the orientation of your roof before installing PV panels.
Note that it is also possible to combine panels oriented east and
west, for example, in the same system.
Here's a link with more info about how to do animated displays like
    the house in the video:
    http://computerchristmas.com/index.phtml
    Care and Maintenance
What is the durability and service life of a typical system?
Service life: Typically, PV modules have a service life exceeding 20
years. The other equipment used in the system employs parts with a
design service life of about 10 years.
